The ESU provides technology and staff development opportunities that we could not possibly afford as an individual school. The ESU cooperative is able to combine many school districts to provide purchasing leverage that we would not be able to attain as an individual entity.
The staff development provided by the ESU is a excellent component that would be a significant loss if it were to go away. We do not have the time or expertise to create, schedule, or financially afford the type of staff development opportunities that the ESU can provide.
The ESU provides amazing technology support both for individuals and whole systems support that would not be possible for us to provide individually - the cost factor would be too great and staffing appropriate personnel would be next to impossible for all schools. The ESU, working with limited personnel themselves, is able to create added value that would cost all partnering schools far more money to do if we had to do it without the ESU support.
In my opinion the ESU's may actually be the best bang for the buck in the entire educational system of Nebraska, when you consider how many school districts and staff they serve in a multitude of areas, I can't imagine how individual schools could come remotely close to creating that core of excellence with all the other things we are required to do, let alone for less total costs than what our ESU's provide.
