Schuyler Community Schools is home to a diverse population of over 2,000 students. The service unit provides direct services for special education, speech therapy, school psychologist, technology, curriculum and instruction. If we did not have access to these services, we would need to look to other private options to meet these needs for our students. The advantage to our district includes consistency in service delivery, benefit of shared contracts where a full-time person is not required, professional development support often at a cost and schedule in conflict with our needs or budget authority. The technology support also provides additional expertise in coordination with area school and service agencies. I believe the net result would be increased cost, decreased service, and lack of professional support in specialty areas.
